- What initially motivated you to choose oculoplastic ophthalmology as your specialty, and what do you find most inspiring about this field of medicine?
I fell in love with medicine at a very young age thanks to the daily professional practice I witnessed from my parents. My passion for ophthalmology came later when I used to accompany my father to his clinic to see patients. There, I discovered a microscopic world as vast as it is beautiful.
- In your experience, which technological advancements have marked a before and after in the procedures you currently perform?
One of the most significant technological advances in the field of Oculoplastics is the use of lasers and lipofilling to perform blepharoplasties. These cutting-edge tools greatly enhance patient outcomes.
- What would you say is the biggest challenge in the daily practice of ocular aesthetic medicine today?
One of the greatest challenges is managing complications from surgeries performed by non-specialist professionals. There is a lot of overlap with other medical fields and many misleading offers that unfortunately create false expectations and inappropriate patient management.

- How do you balance the scientific precision of surgery with the aesthetic expectations many patients have today?
The most important aspect is prioritizing function over aesthetics. When that principle is respected, results are optimal and patients are not exposed to undesirable outcomes.
- Which aspects of your work do you feel are not visible “from the outside” but are essential for achieving excellent results?
In-depth training in ophthalmology as a first specialty gives the oculoplastic surgeon the greatest advantage for comprehensive and safe patient management. Those of us who know how to protect patients’ vision and eyes would never risk functionality for aesthetics.
- What does patient trust mean to you, and how do you build it during the first encounter?
Empathy is the foundation of the doctor–patient relationship. Putting yourself in the other person’s shoes, showing kindness and respect these are essential for establishing that bond of trust.
- On a personal level, what habits or routines outside the clinic help you maintain balance, mental clarity, and well-being?
Spending time with my family and balancing my professional life with my children’s school activities so I can always be present. That is my priority; after that, I dedicate myself fully to my profession.
- What is the most important human value you try to instill within your team and toward your patients?
Respect above all else. Respect and recognition for other people’s time and work.
- What goals or new professional projects would you like to achieve in the short or medium term?
The most important project of my career has just begun: the Oculoplastics and Facial Harmonization Unit at Clínica Mira, where I serve as coordinator. My goal is to offer comprehensive care together with our multidisciplinary team. Ensuring that our patients feel well cared for and happy is my greatest satisfaction.
- If you could send a message to all patients before they arrive for their consultation, what would you tell them?
As an oculoplastic ophthalmologist, I’ve learned that eyes don’t just see they speak, express, communicate… and deserve to be cared for with precision, empathy, and artistry. My mission is to help patients enhance their gaze to become the best version of themselves, understanding that true beauty begins with how you see yourself.
